The German Center for Eurasian Studies met in Prague leading representatives of the World Council of Carpathian Rusyns. The talks were about the political situation of the national minority of Rusyns in Transcarpathia which is today part of Ukraine. The talks were about the level of discrimination by the Kiev government and the ignorance of the EU institutions.

Hungarian MP demands autonomy for ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko said in the beginning of June that he is willing to give Crimean Tatars political and cultural autonomy in case Crimea comes back to Ukraine. Hungarian MP Márton Gyöngyösi (Jobbik) sees in Poroshenko´s plan a “political statements clearly directed against Russia”. Gyöngyösi: “Mr. Poroshenko doesn´t have any credibility when it comes to ethnic minority rights issues.” The Hungarian politician demands “self-governance and cultural autonomy” for ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine. Ukrainian ambassador to Germany threatens German MEP Marcus Pretzell on twitter

The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andrij Melnyk, threatened German MEP Marcus Pretzell from the sovereignist party “Alternative für Deutschland” (AfD) via twitter. Melnyk said: Pretzell´s recent “illegal visit to occupied Crimea” will have “consequences”. The Ukrainian ambassador did not explain what type of consequences. German opposition parties embrace the result of the Dutch referendum

Dutch voters have overwhelmingly rejected a Ukraine-European Union treaty on closer political and economic ties, in a rebuke to their government and to the EU establishment. With a turnout of 32.2%, the threshold for a valid referendum was met. 61.59% of votes were Against the Approval Act.

While the German mainstream parties criticized the result of the referendum, politicians of the two German opposition parties – the sovereignist “Alternative für Deutschland” (AfD) and the left wing “Die Linke” embraced the political signal of the referendum.
