Johann Gudenus, vice mayor oft the Austrian capital Vienna and deputy chairman of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), criticized in an interview with Sputnik the anti-Russian sanctions. He blamed Washington to push the EU member states to an anti-Russian stance. „While the US goes on doing business with Russia they dictate us to impose sanctions for their benefit“, he said.

The political aim of the US is to weaken and split Europe. Gudenus also criticized the EU politics towards Turkey: „Turkey, where Erdogan uses brutal means against his own population, against the Kurds, against women and against critical journalists is pampered by the EU“, said Gudenus. „At the same time Russia is marginalized because of geostrategic reasons. This is a transatlanticist action by NATO leadership“, said the Vienna vice mayor.
